Yoga Even Keel Therapeutic Movement Maine

Yoga therapy and private yoga sessions are provided by Katey Hawes, C-IAYT, E-RYT500 (Certified Yoga Therapist, Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with advanced training).

Yoga Therapy services are appropriate for anyone looking for a complementary or alternative approach to a health or wellness challenge. This therapeutic approach can be used as a stand-alone therapy or as a complement or follow-up to more traditional western therapies. As a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), I am happy to guide you in exploring the root causes of your challenge(s) and how you can use different yogic techniques to bring better balance to mind, body, and heart to decrease your pain and suffering.

Yoga therapy is the adaptation and application of Yogic techniques to empower individuals facing health challenges to manage their condition, reduce symptoms, restore balance, increase vitality, and improve attitude.

What to Expect

Your first visit will include a comprehensive assessment using the panchmayakosha model, which is an integrative approach to exploring the multiple dimensions of the individual and how your challenge may be impacting or being impacted by those facets. Based on our assessment findings, you will be guided through self-exploration and instructed in 1-2 techniques to begin practicing 5-7 days a week.

Visits last 60-90 minutes based on your selection, and we will work together to set up a schedule of visits. I typically recommend 3-4 visits after our initial assessment spread out by 1 -2 weeks between each to allow you to integrate the practices and observe your responses. We will discuss what is working and what is not and make changes and/or additions to practices as indicated.

Yogic techniques that may be included as part of your yoga therapy are:

  1. Yoga poses – asana
  2. Yogic breath techniques – Pranayama
  3. Somatics – Feldenkrais, Hanna
  4. Guided relaxation/ yoga Nidra
  5. Mindfulness and meditation
  6. Intention setting, affirmations, self-inquiry.

The techniques you learn will become the toolbox you can access whenever you feel that you are moving out of balance and need a reset.

Note:  If you are working with a health practitioner (physical or mental) regarding this challenge, I encourage you to have a conversation with them about pursuing Yoga Therapy before starting services with me. They can contact me if they have questions about yoga therapy.
